Cfadd .Hia tory We, the class of 1952, which is com- posed of 96 dignified seniors, had a hard time our first day of high school trying to act as dumb as freshmen are supposed to be. Even the bewildering changing of classes didn't bother us the first day, because few of us found our homerooms. Gene Earnhardt was our freshman class president. Alliene Hin- kle, a member of our class, was chosen as Homecoming Queen. As sophomores we at last had the privilege of looking down our noses at the freshman class. Gene Earnhardt was again our class president, with Dorothy Pleasant serving as vice- president: Thelma Toney, secretary: and Betty Warner, treasurer. Mildred Coggins made the girls' varsity basket- ball team while Norman Crews, Don- nie Cranford, Herman Dunning, Darr S-healy, Jr., Ronald Barker, Paul Breed- love, and Buddy Cranford made the varsity football team. Betty Ann Ty- singer and Kitty Jarrett became mem- bers of the cheerleaders squad, and William Palmer was a member of the Debating team. After a successful football season, which included defeating Lexington by a score of 7 to 0, the boys' basketball team won the South Piedmont Con- ference Tournament and the Sports- manship Trophy as well. In addition to this Thomasville High School won the Midget Basketball Tournament, One of the highlights of our year was the Sophomore party, while biol- ogy projects were the plague of our lives. History repeated itself in the election of Gene Earnhardt as class president during our junior year. A highly suc- cessful magazine drive along with re- ceiving our class rings made us feel even more important and indispensable to T. H. S, Bill Murphy and Ellis Jack- son made their debut on television this year as the wilder two-fifths of the Wild Five. As a result of the Korean War, Buddy Cranford, a member of the National Guard, was called into active duty. Jean Sink was voted to reign over the Homecoming festivities. Joyce Bean, Barbara Peters, and Peggy Bryant served as majorettes. Joann Slate was chosen as flag carrier and Bill Murphy, drum major. Our year was highlighted by the Junior-Senior Prom, which had as its theme, i'Spring Frolicsf' Herman Dun- ning was chosen as Mr. Sweetheart for the Valentine Dance. Facts and Fun received a first place rating in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association contest. Faye Floyd and Jimmy Owen were editor and business manager. Madge Wilson and Jean Sink were the delegates to Girls' State. Bill Tudor and Jimmy Owen attended Boys' State. Darr Shealy, Jr., was chosen to head the class our senior year. Jean Sink and William Palmer had the weekly radio broadcast, 'High Spots of H i gh School. Betty Warner was chosen as the D. A, R. Good Citizen Pilgrim to represent Thomasville High School. For the third time a member of the Class of 1952 gained the title of Home- coming Queen. Joyce Bean was crown- ed at the annual Homecoming game and reigned over the dance that followed. Election of superlatives, measuring for caps and gowns, English term papers, Kids' day, Senior play, and last but not least. graduation are just a few of the mem- ories that We will take with us as we leave T.
