CLASS HISTORY As the second class to take a tvs elve year course at T H S we had a slrght taste of hrgh school rn the erghth grade so vue weren t too utterly green our freshman year That year we were very proud of Dorrs Rrckard who won the honors for our class by makrng the debatrng team wrth three senrors Our sophomore year we were completely at home rn hrgh school and began to wonder how the old place had ever got along wrthout us We were occasronally taken down a peg or two wrth the remrnder that sophomore means wrse fool but not untrl we became junrors drd we fully apprecrate the meanrng We sponsored a magazrne drrve the next year rn order to grve the annual junror Senror Banquet We needed not the assurances of our guests that rr was the best banquet ever we knew rt was' Frank Trngley was awarded the trophy for berng the most valuable player on the 1946 football team Brll Lord got a one ratrng rn the vocal department rn a state contest held at Womans College rn Greensboro Wrth prrde and a slrght feelrng of regret we entered our fourth year rn hrgh school As became our status as drgnrhed sen1ors that year was rrchest rn honors for members of our class The summer before Betty Leach and Betty Green represented the school at Grrls State at Woman s College and jrmmy Grrmes and jrm Hrx at Boys State at Carolrna Ruth Taylor was voted Mard of Honor to Mrss Thomasvrlle Hrgh Betty Leach was chosen as Good Crtrzen of T H S The senror class presented Noel Coward s Ill Leave It To You a lrgnt comedy wrth great success Dorrs Rrckard agarn came to the fore as a drsc Jockey on her own program Hr Trme wrth Rrcky over WTNC the local radro statron She also served as master of ceremonres on the schools weekly radro program sponsored by tue Student Assocratron whrch got rrs start that year Jeanne Axford a contestant rn the Pepsr Cola Scholarshrp Contest reached the hnals and won a College Entrance Award One of our outstandrng senrors Brll Lord was presented rn a vorce recrtal by Mr Walter Vassar Senrors stood out rn the held of sports also Frank Trngley became captam of the football team The Lrons Club awarded jeff Warner a srxty four dollar pen and pencrl set for havrng the hrghest grades of any senror on the football team and presented a trophy to Amy McCrary captarn of the basketball team for berng best all round rn football Melvme Hratr on the basketball team for four years became captarn rn her senror year and was awarded a trophy presented by Joe Swrcegood as best all round player Nell Tew was awarded a trophy as most valuable player by Mr Charles Phrllrps Troy Barrett marn speaker of Students Standard Conference made such an rmpressron on us that we asked hrm to become an honorary member of our class To the faculty we express our gratrtude for the care they have taken rn poundrng knowledge rnto our heads We realrze rt was a hard task worrhrly done and we thank them for rt Wrth a glance of regret for the thrngs we left undone the thrngs we could have done better the opportunrtres we mrssed we turn to tomorrow Behrnd us Ire many happy memorres before us lres the future we face rt wrth heads hrgh hearts unafrard and the promrse that wrn or lose we shall grve the best that rs rn us to the frght JEANNE AXFORD Clarr Hutorzun CLASS PROPHECY It was late evenrng of the year 1958 Srnce I had worked hard rn the hosprtal laboratory all day, I decrded to rest my eyes a few mrnutes I pulled up a charr and sat down by the hte As many trmes before, I began to thrnk about and wonder what had happened to my old classmates of 1948 I closed my eyes and suddenly I began to see what trme had done for my frrends Trme and space began to sprn drzzrly before my eyes and I saw the followrng vrsrons Rrchard johnson rs now famous for hrs trumpet, and hrs Krd Johnson orchestra rs known all over the world Bobby Beard rs the coach for a basketball team He rs famous for hrgh school scorrng on hrs one hand set shot Jack Hodgrn rs strll makrng hrs rounds wrth a new car every year Dale Slack owns several drug stores but has retrred from publrc servrce and spends hrs trme huntrng and frshrng out at hrs country home Rrchard Hobbs rs coverrng all brg league games for New York Herald Ruth Taylor rs marrred and has several lrttle football players of her own Ramona Boaz rs the bookkeeper for McLellan s charn stores She got her prrmary trarnrng under Mrs Lowdermrlk !C0nl1nue1l tn Page WI ....... .................................
