Today school systems teach more than the Three R's . Students still learn reading, writing, and arithmetic, but they also learn a great deal more. The subjects are the same, but the depth of study is much greater. The basic arithmetic has been changed into the New Math . X's and Y's are used in solving problems, In the year 1976, metrics play a big roll in the class- room. For the young who have had the English sys- tem a short period of time, it is easy to grasp and use. For the older hard to be convinced to use meters, liters, and grams. The sciences have also broadened. More com- plex science is taught at an earlier age today. As the world's pace in- creases, students must equip themselves with an abundance of knowledge in order to stay on top. If the school systems didn't teach at the same rate as the progression of civilization, it would be the same as going to school 100 years ago and then trying to get a job in the year 1976. 1 '2-iii 1 l f,?'3.-. gil?
