You have the tools to build the kind of society our predecessors could not believe possible. We can lengthen the life span of our people, we can feed our children better, we can communicate better among ourselves and with all the world. We have the technology and means of advancing that technology. We have the intellectual talent and the institutions to develop it and expand it. We can further build public and private systems, through which our common goals can be carried out. We built this complex, dynamic society and we can make it serve our needs. We have built organizations and we can make them serve the individual. A commitment of mind and heart is necessary to make this society grow and flourish. It is well for these to be counted among your goals. You can do it! Dr. Marvin H. Yaffe Superintendent of Schools. THE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Congratulations to you the Class of 1981. You are faced with the great challenges of the 1980s. There will be sacrifices to make and rewards to be gained. Look forward and respond to all that is expected of you. At the top of everyone’s list there should be a strong commitment to family, community and country. You. the Class of 1981, are asked to accept new and important responsibilities. Only by each of us meeting our day to day tasks can we make a true contribution. It is a privilege for me to be your Principal as you receive your Thomaston High School diploma. Many times, in little ways, as well as with larger efforts, I have seen you bring honor and recognition to yourself, your parents and your school. Continue with pride in all that you do. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to commend and help you. Please visit Ihomaston High School as time’goes by. I wish you success and happiness in the years ahead. Herbert W. DeVeber Principal 93 Each year the yearbook is dedicated to someone the senior class respects, someone who has made a great impression upon us and someone who has helped us throughout our years at T.H.S This year our senior class dedicates our yearbook to the man who best fits this description. Mr. Robinson 94 To The Class of '81 Not so long ago. 1981 seemed like a year that would never come. 1981 is now a reality. These past twelve years of school have brought about many changes on all of us. The time has come to leave T.H.S., and we will take with us the countless memories and experiences, we have had here. We will test whether these years have in fact been the best years of our lives, and if by some chance they were not. they will have been the most impressive. Good Luck Always Peter Wehrle To The Reader This year the Owl Staff has made many changes in the yearbook as you have seen. The theme, MASS CONFUSION, is spelled out by each first letter of the divider pages. Robin Lattimer designed the cover of the yearbook. A dedication for the release of the hostages, and special art work on the last page by Deb Russo are included in this year's yearbook. Special thanks goes to the Owl Staff members who typed pages, placed names under pictures and just came to the meetings. I would also like to thank Mr. DeVeber and the faculty for allowing pictures to be taken during school. Extra special thanks to Mr. Foley for putting up with our MASS CONFUSION. Best wishes to the Class of '81 Brenda Beaudoin Editor 95 This year, the Class of '81 will say good-bye to Thomaston High School. In addition, the whole school will say good-bye to an important part of our school. Principal Herbert W. DeVeber. In his years at the school, Mr. DeVeber has shown school spirit, and an interest in the school system as a whole. He has allowed our school to grow in the 60’s, develop in the 70’s, and in our new building, make its rebirth in the decade of the 80’s. He has encouraged both faculty and students to participate in making THS a school that is the finest in Litchfield County. He has been an inspiration to many and a true friend to all. May your retirement years be rewarding after a job well done. 97 “I can re-late. Musicians at work. “Oh no — I forgot to Double Space! What a drag . . . When's lunch?
