THOMASTON HIGH SCHOOL FOREWORD In a few months we all will be taking the first big step towards our futures. Many miles will come between us. and this yearbook is meant to be a link back to our years together at T.H.S. Someday, somewhere, sometime, we will be together again. Until that time, I wish you all Good Luck, and I hope you reach your goals in life. Carol Wilson co-editor Soon the Class of 1980 will be leaving T.H.S. As we reflect upon our years at T.H.S., we cannot help but smile. We share so much together — laughter, anger, and even tears. And through it all, each one of us will leave a part of himself at T.H.S. But in return we take a part of T.H.S. with us, which will always remain within our hearts. God be with the Class of 1980. Linda Bauer co-editor 2 We. the Class of 1980. dedicate our yearbook to a man who has given each and everyone of us special memories. His patience has remained throughout the years. His unique sense of humor has served to boost our morale many times during our years at T. H. S. We can not even begin to thank this man for everything that he has given to the senior class, but as a token of our gratitude and love the Class of 1980 with great pleasure dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Thomas Reynolds 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD....................................2 DEDICATION..................................3 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY...............5-10 IN MEMORIAM...............................6-7 SENIORS ................................11-42 UNDERCLASSMEN...........................43-50 ORGANIZATIONS ..........................51-67 ATHLETICS...............................68-80 EVENTS..................................81-89 MEMORIES................................90-91 ADS....................................92-103 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION In Memoriam Mrs. Mary Litke ' She Is Just Away'1 You cannot say, you must not say That she is dead. She is just away! With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand She has wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since she lingers there; So think of her faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here, Think of her still as the same, and say She is not dead. She’s just away. SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE I am glad that you were members of the senior class, the first class to graduate from the new Thomaston High School. As seniors in a new high school, you set a high standard of behavior, leadership, and cooperation for the undergraduates. Perhaps your greatest challenges in the years ahead are to: A. Keep alive or initiate and maintain the spark of curiosity; B. Rekindle the spark when it flickers out; C. Hunger for life and experience. Please accept my best wishes to fulfill your own potentialities and live a meaningful and satisfying life in the context of those potentialities. I hope that you will have the kind of experiences and learning opportunities that will bring out the best in you. Whatever course your future takes, it is my sincere hope that you will look back on your years in Thomaston as having prepared you to meet and handle the challenges that life in a troubled world will present. Best wishes and congratulations to the Class of 1980. Sincerely yours. Dr. Marvin H. Yaffe Superintendent of Schools 8 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE We need more and more PATRIOTISM, HONESTY and LOYALTY if the United Slates of America is to continue as a leading Nation in the world today. You. the Class of 1980 are joining thousands of other Seniors from all parts of our country who will face this challenge. E. A. Storrs states. “Love of country is one of the loftiest virtues; and so treason against it has been considered among the most damning sins.” Montaigne states, “All other knowledge is hurtful to him who has not honesty and a good nature.” Loyalty is defined as, “faithful — true to a lawful government or — a loyal person. Those of you wno did not see the last of the 1980 Olympic hockey games when the United States won the gold medal missed — first, excellent Team Play and a never-give-up-atti-tude to win by each player. Secondly, you missed the continuous and spontaneous applause during the game, as the game ended, and again as the players were individually introduced. Thirdly, you missed the appearance of many American Flags being waved and held on high. Fourthly, you missed the remarks by the U.S.A. players. No, they did not make speeches. They spoke of the TEAM — always giving credit to the team and their COACH. All Americans must have taken great pride in these victories. All the players and their coach are to be highly commended. They fully deserved to be flown to the White House and congratulated by the President of the United States. I do congratulate you, the Senior Class and the first class to be graduated from our new Thomaston High School. Do continue your loyalty and respect for THS and the U.S.A.
