1960 As long as I can remember being a teenager, I can remember cursing my small town boundaries, and thinking only, in my tearful melodrama, of getting that cap and gown; my one way ticket out of Thomaston; small town USA; pop. 5,000. But now nature seems to have played a trick on me, for somewhere, I’ve picked up a strange kind of fondness for my old enemy; sort of like walking in a thin rain and never knowing it until the insignificant drops pierce the thickness of your coat, and leave you suddenly cold and damp. Suddenly I remember a thousand little things that I’ll miss; the minstrel shows in the old opera house; the feeling of closeness at a band concert on the green; buying penny candy at Duff’s; the big green mansion in the center of town that’s been torn down for years; the when-I-was-a-kid town. Time has changed the face of my town, even in the short period of my adolescence; in 40 years, I will have to rely on pages of print to remember today. It is with this thought in mind that we offer you this yearbook; as a record impenetrable by time. Penny Roesing, Editor 2
