K I B E D A 19 4 2 CLASS HISTORY 1938- 1939 In September 1938, about 130 timid, little creatures entered the eighth grade of Thomasboro High School. In a few weeks, however, we had organized ourselves carefully and thoughtfully under the leadership of John Burnette, who was made president of the class. Mildred Meacham and Donnie Austin were our outstanding basketball players. We were very proud of our stars. One of our teachers, Miss Eaves, was married during the year. Our chief ambition was to prepare ourselves for the higher position of the sophomores — never more to be looked down upon as lowly freshmen. 1939- 1940 Mr. Wright and Mr. Faulkner were our teachers this year. Olen McKee was elected class president, but he left school before the end of the year. A few new students joined us. Although we were not so timid now, and were getting used to the routine of high school, our sophomore year was crowded with hard- ships. With determination we went to work and made the year a success in spite of our difficulties. 1940- 1941 The junior class president was Erline Lowder. Our class took part in all school activities and many juniors were taken into clubs. We were just begin- ning to come into our own rights and privileges. Although we had a hard time raising money for the Junior-Senior banquet, it proved a gala evening and a real success. When the year came to an end many of us had already begun to realize how quickly our last year would pass. 1941- 1942 This year ' we felt more keenly our responsibility, for we were looked up to and respected as dignified seniors. Murdie Jones, senior class president, soon proved himself a very capable leader. Our class of 123 seniors was the largest graduating class in the history of Thomasboro School. A note of sadness creeps in now as we record these events, for we realize there has been much left undone. We have done our best as a class, though, and we hope that we shall be capable of representing Thomasboro always. Thus ends the record — the brief history of the class of ' 42. — Renavae Hutchison. So now as we prepare to leave, We know we’ll often yearn For good old Thomasboro days And wish they might return. - — Nora Funderburke. Page T wenty THOMASBORO HIGH SCHOOL
