• t THE TERRIER VOLUME IV THOMAS PUBLIC SCHOOL THOMAS, OKLAHOMA J y FOREWORD As the seniors of Thomas High School walk down the steps to a new way of life, the kinder-1 garteners walk up the steps to begin their educa- tion. The year 1971 will rapidly become almost in- distinguishable from all that has gone before; but what time erases, this book will preserve the year as students saw it at Thomas High. As a group, we huddle together to face the new opportunities of tomorrow. As individuals, we kept our goals set high and plodded onto the future. For some this was a first year of initia- tion; for others a last year of preparation. 2 CONTENTS PAGE TITLE PAGE................................................... 1 FOREWORD......................................................2 CONTENTS......................................................3 DEDICATION....................................................5 ADMINISTRATION............................................... 6 SENIOR HIGH..................................................11 JUNIOR HIGH..................................................37 ELEMENTARY...................................................47 FAVORITES....................................................61 ACTIVITIES...................................................71 ORGANIZATIONS................................................75 SPORTS.......................................................87 ADVERTISERS.................................................105 3 IN MEMORY OF The annual staff respectfully dedicates this yearbook in the memory of Mr. D. D. Moore. He was a great believer in American youth and held high esteem for our teenagers of today. Mr. Moore will be remembered for his warm personality, friendli- ness, and civic pride. One way of showing his great interest in the youth of Thomas was by giving the football players a banquet from 1960 through 1969. He thought that the team was one of the most cohesive forces in keeping Thomas together and growing. In dedicating this annual in his memory, we sincerely hope that its readers will demonstrate the same fine qualities in their future life that he practiced throughout his life. DEDICATION We, the Annual Staff of 1971, respectfully dedicate our yearbook to you, Mr. Donald Litsch, who is highly respected and liked both among your students and your fellow colleagues, not only for your teaching and counseling abilities but also for your restraint and splendid personality. You are always willing to lend a helping hand whenever it is needed. We admire you for the wonderful job you have done. Thank you, Mr. Litsch, for all the guidance, understanding and friendship you have given us in your teaching at THS. 5 SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Dwaine Schneider grew up southeast of Custer City. He and his wife, Wanda, now reside in Thomas at 406 Roh Street. They have four children Vickie, Vinita, Valinda and Thomas. He received his high school diploma from Custer in 1949, his Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwestern, his Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma and is now a candidate for the Education Doctorate Degree. Before coming to Thomas as Superin- tendent of Schools, he served in the army during the Korean Conflict, taught and coached at Bradley and Custer City; was principal at Custer City for five years. As well as being an outstanding edu- cator, he is very active in church and civic activities. Mr. Schneider is highly respected by the student body and faculty members for his understanding, cooperativeness, and fairness to each individual. BOARD OF EDUCATION MR. DALE MOSES, Member MR. A. C. MINTON, Vice- President MR. OTTO ICE, Member MR. EDDIE PERKINS, Clerk MR. DICK FRANS, President 6 HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Whether at work or play, always do your best. Perfection comes from doing, reading, watching, and listening. Give the knowledge of what is cor- rect, but only through doing can we achieve. GRADE PRINCIPAL It is an honor and privilege to congratulate Mrs. Haggard and the yearbook staff for the production of the 71 Terrier. The Terrier serves as a lasting reminder of school days, classmates, and activities. It is always gratifying to see dedicated people work together and bring about a worthwhile contribu- tion such as this book. Keep up the good work and you will receive dividends through the years. 7 KENNETH ROOF Driver's Ed, Coach JOE ROSS Industrial Arts JANICE JONES Science DON LITSCH Business Counselor JERRY TAYLOR Math, Coach MARILYN CALDWELL Home Ec PAT KOURT English VICKI BROWN English GARY BROWN Band THOMAS KENT PENNINGTON Vo-Ag i JIM SANDERS History, Coach I R.
