OPENING It was that time of year again, when the city of Port Arthur lit up with amusement and excitement for the annual CavOilcade celebration, In 1988, 66 gitls participated in the 56th annual CavOilcade queen's coronation, which was held at Woodtow Wilson Auditorium. HeathCI Gtiffin of Part Neches was crowned queen. Other winners included Hrsr runner-up, Laura Denise Roccaforte; second runner-up, Amber Leigh Martin; and third tunner-up, Elizabeth Kay Vaughan. Finalists were Kristi L Floyd, Christy Brinson, Datla Jean Hebert and Amy Denise Sperry. Lisa Jones was voted Miss Congeniality jill McClure of Woodville was choosen Lady-in- Waiting from the gtoup of out-ofe town duchesses. Many Other events took place including a tour which included Port Arthur's historical homes. CavOilcade princesses welcomed visitors to the homes. The annual parade took place on Ca. 8 and included various area bands, drill teams and cheerleaders. The Mason-Dixion concert also took place on Ocr.8 at the Port Arthur Civic Center, During Tj's homecoming game the CavOilcade princesses and escorts were featured on the field during han-time ceremonies Besides having fun, CavOilcade was an opportunity for several of the girls to get hands-on experience at interviewing which is helpful for visiting colleges and applying for jobs. Because of the large amounts of time spent with CavOiicade sponsors and patents, many of the Students became mote comfortable With socializing with adults. of course, after official CavOilcade activities, the princesses and escorts let loose.
