In her second year here, she introduced the first hardback yearbook after a series of paper backsv Each of the 31 books has its own unique personality, depending upon the selection and taste of staff members, Mrs. Redmah said. Many Improvements In yearbook technology have taken place, espeCIally With the addition of color in the past decade. The first book sold for the great sum of $3.50, With the current rate of $12. HI shall miss the excitement of publishing the book, said Mrs. Redman, but I look forward to free time. Good luck to a new adVisor and stafflt' The Port Arthur Independent School District lost its chief executive officer to retirement in June. To Dr. Gott, the best part about being superintendent is the opportunity to meet and work with the people of this area. Dr. Gott proved to many people that he loved working with and servmg the people of Port Arthur. Dr. Gott began his teaching career as a coach and held administrative positions in the San Antonio schools before coming to Port Arthur in 1961. He became superintendent in 1967, having been TJVs prlncipal for six years. WHAT IS THE HIGHEST HONOR BESTOWED TO STUDENTS? NMonteceHo Guardian Award, because they represent the Sen- ior Class. Working with a new staff each year has made the publication of Thomas Jefferson's story for three decades challenging and reward- ing. It would be impossible to single out the best staff or the best book, but I wish to express my appreciation to each set of editors, beginning with Eart Schoettlin in the first edition to Jeff and Jesse Crochet, 1977-78 editors. Many photographers have contributed to the YELLOW JACKET'S success, but special appreciation goes to veterans J. C. Watkins and Frank Cricchio. Taylor Publishing Company, Dallas, has been the only publisher of the annuai, and that , W a r ' 'nhmvttheir '4 servicee Most of all, however, I wish to express my appreciation to the Port Arthur Inde- pendent School District for providing the opportunity to publish the YELLOW JACKET. ghmwab my. W JQXMMU Acknowledgement Working on a yearbook takes a lot of patience, time, and sincere dedication to our cause We were very lucky to have a staff which contained all of these qualities. Many times have we felt that our work on this book would never be finished, but it finally came to successful close. Special thanks goes to Scot Simms for giving this book a different look through his superb artworkt We would like to thank Robert Worthy and Dale Higginbotham for their time and wonderful photography they turned out. Other photographers we owe appreciation to are: Watkins Studio, Danny Gonzales, Cricchio Studio, Provine Studiov Thanks also goes out to our main staff and editors; Trudie Downs, Richard Melancon, Kirt Gaspard, Kenneth Harrington, Cindi Durham, Vanessa Scypion, Candi Dattalo, Nancy Miller, Dona Landry, Laura Walwrath, Lisa Rogeau, Tina Gleason, Lori Babin, Vanessa Varnado, Becky Shoaf, Greg Suire, Maggie Jara, Trudy Robicheaux, Tanya Bergeron, and Kim Hoggatt. To the student body, all clubs and organizations, sponsors, and officers for cooperating with picture schedulest Mr. Willard Clark, our representative from Taylor Publishing Company, for all his helpful advice and for letting us make this the schools book Thanks to Taylor Publishing Co for printing our book and cooperating with us when things went wrong. And last the greatest thanks goes to our sponsor, Mrs. Redman, who through her knowledge of yearbook helped us make this the BEST YELLOW JACKET, Jam 1 gilki, ??gbaww W W
