Mrsl Hayes began teaching in +he high school In l934l which represents one of +he many fir'sfsn in her career. for a+ +hal time, all high school leachers were required to have previous experience in leaching younger children. Supt. G. M. Sims broke precedent by allowing her lo begin in high school. In fhe social studies field. Mrs. Hayes has taught Government American Hisloryl Sociologyi World Geographyl and Texas Hisforv. For l7 years ll9437I960l Mrs. Hayes sponsored the S+udenf Body Congressl and many cl +he cusfoms and practices generally classified today as fradifionsll sfarfed under her sponsorship. The emphasis for Congressmen was upon service, according +0 Mrs. Hayesl especially during fhe World War II days of +he I940's. Congressmen helped ease labor shortages by-aiding in fhe cafe+eV ria. They sponsored a weekly pro- gram of recreation in +he Field House for young people because enferfainmenl for +hem was limu ifed. Congress ini+iafed the hand- bookl Monficello Sage. They aided all clubs by training leaders in conducfing club businessl and Long-Time Teacher. SBC Sponsor Re+ires Wi+h 38 Years Of Service fhey originafed charters for all clubs and organizafions.
