Retiring Teachers 0. JONES MR. HOBART W. WARD Mr. Hobart W. Ward, administrative assistant, retired at the close of the term with a record of 45 years of teach ing. Mr, Ward observed that the use of many Vlsuol aids in teaching IS one of the notable changes he has seen take place smce he began work in a small East Texas school. Mr. Ward's field IS mathematics, and he taught tn iunior high grades before coming to high school as a teacher. Fbr a number of years, Mr. Ward was head of the Math emutlcs Department. He has seen the cutriculum make many changes In the preisputnlk days, little mathematics was required. Now courses include advanced placement studies. Mr. Word has served the past three years as odmlmstror hve assistant to the prmctpul and has worked out many stutisticat reports. Mr. Ward is a graduate ot North Texas State and Peer body College. He has a tife membership in Parent- Teochers Association, and he is a member of Texas State Teachers Associohon, These three teachers have been helpful to thousands of young peopte 0nd to their fellow teachers. 24 Miss Aliece Anderson, economics teacher, brought 0 teaching career spanning 45 years to a close as the se- mester ended. She has seen many changes in the teach- ing profession dining these years, especially in matters of salary and the physical school ptonts. MISS Anderson taught in a number of East Texas schools before coming to Thomas Jefferson 26 years ago. She has taught in all fields of sociot studies, but economics is her specialty. For several years she served as group choir- mun and coordinated the work of homeroom teachers in her group. She also served as director of student activities for two years. Miss Anderson is a graduate of the University of Texas and Colorado State College She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Social Studies Council, and Texas State Teachers Association. Mr. Willie G. Jones, director of the Industrial Arts Depart ment and chief printer for the schools, deeded at the be- ginning of the year to take early retirement. Mr. Jones had been a member of the Jefferson faculty for 39 years. He IS a graduate of Sam Houston State. We Salute Three MR, WILLIE
