Advanced Placement English Offered to DRAMA, JOURNALISM, SPEECH, and three years of English make up the course of study in the English Department. Seventeen teachers, under the directton of Miss Doris Crisp, teach students the fundamentals of grammar, variety of ex- pressnon, and critical readings of novels, plays, and short stories. Classes are provided on three levels, basic, regular, and ad- vunced. TJ is the only school in this area that offers Advanced Placement English. ExceptionuIly talented senior students are placed in this class and, ot the end of the year, take a test over all that they have learned. Those scoring high enough receive hours on their college English. Students in Journalism classes have an opportunity to partici- pate in publication of 0 school newspaper and a school annur GI and learn how to write in an interesting and meaningful way, Speech and Drama students are taught various techniques of better communication by frequently presentmg oral speeches and appearing in plays.
