Beginning September 6, 1961, school days held a wealth of exciting events that lasted until May 31, when the last notes of the Old Maroon and Gold faded into the summer dusk, and suddenly the Class of 1962 became ex-students. One of the most exciting events of the early fall was the mass evacua- tion of this city to places of safety before the might of Hurricane Carla. After the excitement of returning home to find our beautiful school building undamaged from the storm and every one of its hundreds of panes of glass intact, it was time to
