.mio 'za JUNE CLASS HISTORY In 1945 a few cf us came here as wide-eyed fre.hmen, but in the years that followed we have become one of the largest and most outstanding class in the history of Jefferson. There were many of us who could boast of a high scholastic average. In our junior year Anitra Davis, Betty Dollar, Beverly Eason, Lily Giovenco, Dalia Gonzalez, Jan Knight, Hilda Morales, Daniel Suarez, Mary Ruth Summers and Nelson Spoto were inducted into the National Honor Society. In our Senior year Thelma Alvarez, Jeannine Eason, Emilio Echevarria, Dorothy Edenfield, Orlando Garcia, Anthony Lala, Beverly Langford, Mary Manaley, Castor Mendez, Pauline Papia, W'ynette Ragsdale, Ralph Pugh, William Strawbridge, Robert Smith, james Thedfcrd, Charles Thomas, Mercer Tyler, joan Walls, and Tommy Walker received this honor. Those girls who have served faithfully as Kiwanettes were Dorothy Edenfield, Beverly Langford, Wfynette Ragsdale, Joan Walls, jan Knight, Beverly Henderson, Peggy Sherouse, and Mary Ruth Summers who also served as president. W'e find working along with the Kiwanettcs the Key Club, boasting the membership of Nelson Spoto, Bob Smith, Bill Thornton, Orlando Garcia, Emilio Fchevarria, Anthony Gonzalez, Tommy XValker, Daniel Suarez, Mercer Tyler, john Simms, jimmy Munoz, Anthony Lala, and Bill Strawbridge, president. Governing the student body are Orlando Garcia, president, Mary Ruth Summers, Peggy Sherouse, Emilio Echevarria, and Thelma Alvarez, members of the Student Council. ln the music department those students who have helped to make our band a success are Evelyn Groh, Castor Mendez, Frank Liuzzo, Nelson Spoto, james Thelford, Tony Cona, Lemar Miller, john Morrell, Phyliss Van Vaerenbergh, Flag Bearer, and james Tune, Drum Major. Those boys who have become outstanding in the field of sports are Bobby Curry, lirnest Carrera, Rey Villanueva, Tony Reale, jerome Sierra, and Dan Rogue. Cheering loudly at all the games were Nita Henson, Marian Boggs, Pauline Papia, Orlando Garcia, Betty Nelson, Viola Ferrera, and Joyce Williams. Our Senior Banquet was one that will be long remembered. WW: had for our theme Dream Castles and on the tables were mirzature castles in billowy clouds. Mary Ruth Summers gave che toast to the faculty and Miss Summer responded. The toast to the girls was given by Daniel Suarez and Nita Henson responded. Peggy Shcrouse gave the toast to the boys and Orlando Garcia responded. For entertainment, Sylvia Ferrer gave a piano selection ancl Pat Landress sang. The main attraction for the evening was the introduction of the notables by Jan Knight. We owe the success of our banquet to Miss Margaret Deaver, Mary Ruth Summers, our class president, and the banquet committee headed by Wynette Ragsdale. Anitra Davis and Tony Caballero were responsible for much of the art work. .Ian Knight was in charge of the notables and Dalia Gonzalez and Tommy Walker worked hard on any little task that happened to pop up. For our Senior Class Play we chose i'Best Foot Forward. Bill Thornton played the part of Bud, Shirley Slaff was the movie star Gale Joy, and Joyce Williams played the part of Helen. Others in the cast were Katherine Erwin, Peggy Sherouse, Pat Broderick, Nita Henson, Jeannine Eason, Grace Kinney, Wynette Ragsdale, Pat Landress, jan Knight, Nelson Spoto, Daniel Suarez, Mercer Tyler, Frank Liuzzo, John Kittrell, Castor Mendez, Charles Thomas, Bob Smith, and Bill Strawbridge. Mary Ruth Summers was Assistant Director and James Tune was Stage Manager. Mary Ruth Summers, chosen the most outstanding girl in the class, received the DAR Award. Jan Knight and Tommy Walker were chosen to receive the I Dare You Award. Graduation at last! The theme Patriots for Peace was carried out in the Commencement speeches. jan Knight gave the Salutatory, Lily Gioveneo was Essayist and the farewell speech was given by Dorothy Edenfield, the Valedictorian.
