Dedicated To . . . ln the middle of a busy day, Mr. Hancock takes time to discuss with lynore Katz her college plans. hr ilr. nl Pmvtx Mr. Hancock interrupts his reading to greet a parent. His main interest was in the students' education, To you, Mr. Coalter C. Hancock--second principal of Thomas Jef- ferson High School-we dedicate this 1959 Monticello. For the past sixteen years you have dedicated your life to your school, in- spiring and guiding the students through their years at Thomas Jefferson. You have made our happy times memorable and our problems seem trivial. You became principal in 1942 when the world was in the midst of a war. You encouraged our teachers to instill in us those basic ideals for which our nation was waging that war. You guided us through the succeeding years when our world witnessed V-J Day, V-E Day, the development of superior weapons of destruction, and the advancement in medical science. Today we are still trying to strengthen our scientific research and agricultural development so that we may prevent World War III. It is obvious to anyone that much has taken place in the past six- teen years in our world: and you, during those years devoted a great part of your life to the welfare of the younger generation, preparing us to face this world of both war and peace. Thomas Jefferson has kept us mentally alert and challenged us to face whatever lies ahead after graduation. In the last two years you have tried to broaden our knowledge by adding courses on the college level to our curriculum. As a result of these courses many students are able to receive advanced placement in college. Mr. Hancock, for these things and many others we are grateful to you. We thank you for making us a small part of your life, and for this reason we dedicate to you our 1959 Monticello. milf
