This spiriT enlivens our more serious momenTs as each year, Through The deTer- mined eTTorTs oT The sTaTT, we beneTiT Trom The diver- siTied opporTuniTies oTTered in The various deparT- menTs. For insTance, The English deparTmenT is sTressing The appreciaTion oT modern plays and The inTroducTion oT new speech acTiviTies in The classes. Through Miss Gary's unTiring eTTorT, many oT us have been aided in The reading skills by The remedial reading classes. The arT deparTmenT sTrives To coordinaTe The work oT The arT classes wiTh ThaT oT oTher classes. and Through various museum visiTs and lecTures, we have gained inspiraTion and learned a greaT deal in The Tielcl oT arT. This year in The governmenT classes many oT us have obTainecl valuable inTormaTion by aTTending The bi-monThly CiTy Council meeTings. Early in The year The social sTudies deparTmenT sponsored a guesTispeaker, Dr. Fabry Trom AusTria, who spoke on Communism To The enTire school. The economics classes during The year have had speakers Trom banks, brokerage concerns, deparTmenT sTores, in- surance companies, and various oTher business organizaTions. ln The science deparTmenT There have been many worThwhile accomplishmenTs. ln The Tall oT T952 abouT TiTTy-Two per cenT oT us were enrolled in The science cleparTmenT. In The physics conTesT Tor seniors. sponsored by William and Mary College, Tee Jay seniors have won TirsT place more oTTen Than any oTher sTaTe high school. Mr. Jarman, head oT The science deparTmenT, sTaTes ThaT There has never been an ouTsTanding Tee Jay science sTudenT Tinan- cially unable To arfend college who has not been aided by The deparT.menT, which obTains The scholar- ship Tunds Trom various scienTiTic socieTies. We as Tee Jay sTudenTs have beneTiTed in many ways by The aTTendance oT our Teachers aT conTer- ences and workshops designed To help maTh Teachers.
