.ff XX T l'llllEWllllll FT ff- - ix 'ff ,f 11+ ., Today the ideals in which Thomas Jefferson believed are of as much importance as they were when he was living. ln his time rebellion against an oppressing government established a new nation founded on the principles that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the unalien- able rights of every man. ln our time we have overpowered the forces of Fascism and Nazism and established a union of nations to try to secure for all men for all time freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Because of the kinship of his ideas and ours we have chosen Thomas Jefferson as our theme. We hope that in presenting this volume of The Monticello, centered as it is around the man for whom our school was named, we have not only recorded our own experiences but have also pictured the life and times of his day.
