f M TO THE CLASS OF l94O: In June this class of 470 young men will graduate from Jefferson High School. In September i937 you began three years of work which should mean much to you in increasing your amount of useful knowledge, in affording an opportunity for exploring various fields in class, in laboratory, and in shop, leading you to discover special abilities and interests in yourselves, in increas- ing your powers of critical judgment, in learning to cooperate well with others, in developing your latent powers of leadership, in imparting a strong belief in the value of the democratic way of living and thinking. He who has availed himself of these opportunities goes forth a better candidate for worthwhile citizenship, better prepared to meet the many de- mands of modern life, better able to take his place among his fellows. A large number of this class will enter the various colleges. Upon those we urge the importance of pursuing to the full, the advantages which will be at their command. Many will enter commercial and industrial fields where the shop and laboratory work in Jefferson should make their adiustment easy. These we urge to take advantage of the many part-time educational opportunities now offered in this metropolitan section. At Jefferson we shall remain always ready to help where we can. Do not hesitate to call upon us when you feel in need. To all we extend our most cordial best wishes for a successful and worth- while life. I
