OUR PRINCIPAIJS MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1938: 'E EXTEND the most cordial greet- ings to this class of 450 men. During your three years of secondary school life, you have been fortunate in having available the most extensive pro- gram of activities ever offered in any school in your city. This has been made possible by your own support and the support of your parents and the general public for jefferson's varied program. The social, l athletic and educational plans have been widened almost beyond the expectations of anyone. Each member of the class has been able to find challenge physically, socially and mentally. You probably have not realized that your school has presented varied opportunities which only a small percentage of secondary schools of your country can present. The use which you have made of such advantages has depended primarily upon yourself. Each one, as a creature of his parental heritage, his social environ- ment, his school environment, has gained much or little according to what has been implanted within himself and developed as a result of his personal interest. If you have grown not only in strength and stature, but in useful knowledges, in mental development, in power of self-expression, and in character, then such a program of public education is justified. May each one go forth to higher schools or to commercial and industrial life and take his place as a useful law-abiding citizen who will in turn do his bit in these troublesome times to perpetuate his sincere belief in the democratic form of government under which we live. Sincerely yours, P. W. AVERILL, Principal. MR. P. W. AVERILL

APPRECIATION E ARE not going to go into any lengthy eulogy about the invaluable aid rendered us by two gentlemen of the Faculty who are depicted on this page in both formal and informal poses because we lack sufficient words to express our deep-felt appreciation for the many hours of their time that they devoted to the preparation of the 1938 Tee-Jay directly: so, we hereby thank you, Dr. Warsley, for organizing the work of this Annual and to you, Nlr. Bartlett, we express our thanks for directing the photographic items portrayed here. We appreciate your interest and efforts profoundly. ORCEV BAR'I'I,l2'I I' DR, AI,BIQIQ'l' E, XVAI
