Q 6 Ig, HlsTonY of: , ,- .---ssl-7 3' Constructlon of Thomas Jefferson High School was approved by popular vote on March 12 1917 Because of the World War and legal obstructlons constructlon d1d not begin until June 1920 The cornerstone was la1d March 15 1921 and the dedication program was on January 21 1922 The school opened ln 1922 with 716 students 1n seventh eighth nmth and tenth grade W1th1n four years the seventh and elghth grades were shifted to grade schools Thomas Jefferson IS heated by gas heat has 15 classrooms on lts flrst floor and 14 on the second Because of the west end growth and new and better ldeas there have been several additlons to the school In 1922 a movie machine was mstalled ln the audltorlurn In 19.30 a large prmtlng press was added to a small type press Llghts were put on the football field ln the same year For the R O T C an indoor r1fle range was built ln 1934 But now our dream of thlrty years IS finally becormng a reality On March 10th school election voters approved the S1 200000 bond issue that will be used to build a Tee Jay fleld house and two other grade schools The flgures of the vote were 4163 yes and 977 no votes Speclal efforts proved successful ln getting the voters out to vote More people voted m the electlon than 1n any other of the sponsored a contest to get the slgnatur of as many voters as possible Although we the semors may not be in school at the tune when the field house is completed we can always say with pride I grad- uated from Thomas Jeffersor High School 00' ' 0 QC , QQ O S no Q , .:.' 91: Q Q 0 :W Q, ' 5-'L' Q C K V 42, Q O B . 13 9 0 . .0 5 O f..
