Co- captains Walt Cook and Tom Kossum were season standouts along with Seniors King and Takagi, Junior Mark Bonasorte, and Sophomore Larry Hager. Walt managed the fastest home course time of the season with a time of 13:06. Winning their last four matches in a row indicated the team's surging improvement toward season's end. Being one of the toughest in the WPIAL, Section 11 provided top-rate opponents for our Jaguar team. Dominated under the boards by these teams, Thomas Jefferson, nonetheless, gave 100'k. Leading the Jaguars in scoring this year was Sheldon Slepecki with 254 points and a 12.1 average. Junior Tom Pavlik was not far behind with 218 points scored, followed by Dave Lockard's 9.3 average and 203 points. Five seniors will depart but experienced underclass- men, both juniors as well as sophomores, will be back next year to try to further the squad's improvement. The Big 10 Championship victory was another high- point of the season. Individual accomplishments were many in both the running and field events. Gary King captured thh 2 mile record with a time of 10:1.06 while Chuck Mozingo's time of 2:02 was the best ever in the 880. Both the mile and half mile relay teams clocked record times. John Yogan, Len Kushner, Mark Washabaugh, and Bert Bartko managed a 1:32.05 in the half and a 3:34 flat in the mile was turned in by Tom Kossum, Tom Bailey, Tom Fleet, and Chuck Mozingo. Tom Pavlik and Brian Hebert hold two records each in the field events. The pole vault of 12'8 and high jump of 6' for Brian capped a successful year. Only a sophomore, Tom Pavlik heaved the shot and discus for record distances of 52'4 and 135' respectively. Team records included most season wins, 95 most points in a Big 10 meet, 11725 most points in one meet, 1395 and the most times scoring 100 or more points, 9 times. Behind the The ability of a play to create an emotion in an audience is truly a sign of excellence, and is just one of the outstanding characteristics for which Margaret Ann Hubbard's play, Murder Takes the Veil , will be long remembered. Pre- sented by the class of 1970, this play has the distinction of having fully mesmerized its capa- city audiences with the first mystery play in Thomas Jefferson's history. Miss Frola and Mr. Morgan, with the assistance of student directors Debbie Nolan and Tom Simpkins, dedicated themselves to the efforts of this production, which culminated in two brilliant performances given on November 22 and 23. The leads, Geri Drnach, Bill Stotesbery, and Carla Anderson, as well as the entire Cast, devoted themselves to weeks of work which provided for a fine rendition of Murder Takes the Veil. Scenes. T.J.'s Student Council, in its efforts to serve as a liaison between students and administra- tion, has seen a busy year this year. Among its many projects were the selling of football pro- grams, the conducting of T.J.'s first bonfire pep rally, and the prompting of action on the dress code. To learn about other schools and their councils, our Student Council has participated in several student exchanges with area schools. Under the direction of president Bob DeNale and his officers, as well as Sponsor Mrs. Supra, the Student Council this year has offered a high standard for other councils to meet. This year's staff, headed by editors Geri Drnach and Linda Wright, worked diligently each month reporting, photographing, interviewing, typing, and compiling a journal of people, issues, and events. The paper also served as a center for discussion of controversial happenings between administration, faculty, and students themselves. The Statesman has truly been a newspaper concerned with reporting and presenting all facts and opinions and enlightening the student body in general. The current staff, back in September, agreed that this year's Monticello would be creative, imagnative, accurate, and artistic. With a lot of hard work, collection of ideas, and time the staff of the Monticello, under the supervision of editor, Karen Sunnarborg, and ad- visors, Mr. Kuchta and lVlr. Wetzel, has succeeded in presenting to the student body of Thomas Jefferson High School, an unforgetable account of 1969-1970. 87 The school year of 1969-70 saw the Key Club keep up with a tremendous program of services and projects. For the first time, the club finally was successful in carrying out a Big Brother Program. Beside work at the Mars orphanage, the club also sponsored such well attended programs as the Donkey Basketball Game, Homecoming Queen ceremony, various soc-hops, and a Spaghetti Dinner. All this was accomplished under the capable guidance of Robert H. Morgan, president Rick Erwin, and the Board of Directors. Besides benefiting our school and community, the Key Club also played a vital role in the state. Lieutenant Governor, Jeff Swift, and District Parliamen- tarian, Steve Boss, provided this link. The Key Club certainly upheld its past successes and proved an innovative resource at Thomas Jefferson. Right top: Thomas Jefferson host division workship. Right across: What's so inter- esting?
