WE come here together In great yellow busses which crowd us and wrinkle our clothes WE enter together, to crowd the Iavatories and comb our hair, and fill the air with perfumed lacquer. WE hide from the teachers so WE may greet a friend. WE sing together-walk together--eat together-learn together But still Somewhere in the WE there is an I which cries out to be heard. The I spends lonely hours learning Waiting for a phone call Dressing for a prom-or buying flowers I writes a poem or moulds a jar. I sits alone among the crowd and contributes a silence to the noise. There is a great population and WE are many, but each of us adds to the WE only because WE are an I. I laughssat the joke. And hears the music. 4
