The team, supported by eight returning lettermen, A, had even higher hopes for 1979. The 25-member squad attended the Bel Airtournament March 15, 16, and 17. Five players who will probably be highly favored in district competition are catcher Danny Arrieta, right field Herman Contreras, second base Andy Bejaranoq and pitchers Steve Roddy and Manny ViIIalobos, said Coach Silva. Standing: Oscar Salas, Raul Sanchez, Robert Vasquez, David Sano, Carlos Herrera, Jes- 1, Jose Lujan, Michael Macias, Raul Bencomo, Armando Adame, Victor Segura. Under the direction of Coach Bill Sanders, B-Team Baseball finished the 1977-78 season with a 5-6-2 district record and a 9-7-2 season record. We scored a lot of runs, and our pitching was good, but we did poorly defensively with many errors, stated Coach Sanders. Losing a heart-breaking game to Burges 4-3, the team took consolation honors in the Gadsden Tournament at the beginning of the 1977-78 season. The team was composed of Armando Adame, Alex Alarcon, Lor- enzo Aspeitia, Raul Bencomo, Danny Bustillos, Ray Cortez, Salvador Domin- guez, Cosme Gallardo, Juan Gutierrez and Carlos Herrera. Also Danny Lopez, Jose Lujan, Mike Macias, Albert Michel, Carlos Montes, Jesus Ocon, Felipe Ornelas, Francisco Porras, Eduardo Resendez, Carlos Rubio, Oscar Salas and Raul Sanchez. Finishing the list were Raul Sando- val, David Sano, Victor Segura, Tony Simental, Robert Vasquez and Arturo Watkins. Ray Cortez waits for the pitch during practice.
