Varsity Matmen Place Fourth in City Ending the season with a fourth place finish in district, the wrestlers were quite disappointed. Starting the season on the right foot, ending it on the wrong foot was not what the wrestlers had hoped for. After meeting Burges and experiencing a loss of 30-8, they traveled to Carlsbad, New Mexico. At Carlsbad the Foxes defeated Roswell Goddard 48-12. They then went on to defeat Amarillo Caprock 26-25, but after disagreeing with the referee, the score ended in a tie 25-25. Then the Foxes concluded the tournament with a loss to Carlsbad with a score of 24-32, placing the Foxes in sec- ond place in the tournament. Continuing down the list the Foxes encountered the Bears to defeat them with a score of 53-12. Then the Foxes suf- fered a terrible upset when Eastwood conquered the Foxes 40-16. Once again the Foxes traveled to Carlsbad to meet with previous opponents, Bowie, Burges, Coronado, and El Paso High. The Foxes were defeated once again by Burges and Carls- bad as they placed third in the tournament, Carlsbad second and Burges first. Last on the Foxes list were Andress and Austin who were defeated by scores of 49-9 and 42-6 repectively. Wrapping everything up in the City tournament returning city champ, Sergio Ftenteria outmuscled Burges Earl Grant to win his division, 11121. Second place finishers were Leo Larriva C1325 and Manny Chavez, Cheavyweighty. Leo was pinned by his opponent John Hudson from Burges and Mark Brockington from East- wood outmaneuvered Manny with a decision of 9-6 in the finals. Alex Garcia placed third as he defeated Steve Campos from El Paso High 3-1 in the consolation round. All first, sec- ond, and third place finishers traveled to Amarillo, on Febru- ary 16 and 17.
