Rudy Valdez C125, a three year miler, walks through the chute with an impressive finish. Mike Corona 1125, thinks about the race and wonders how well he did. He was Jeff's top 3 runner.

The Racer's Edge Camacho Qualifies for State The girls' varsity went to Lubbock to compete in regional competition. I couldn't believe it, said Patsy Juarez as Andress was favored. I knew we could do it, said Bertha Hernandez. They went to regionals because they qualified as one ot the top three teams in the girls' division at the district meet held at Coronado. The girls' varsity was composed of top runner, Carmen Jaime 1121, Ber- tha Hernandez Cl 23, Patsy Juarez Q1 lj, Mona Salas C1 U, and Corina Alarcon C1 U. For the boys, the only qualifier was Rudy Camacho C121 He came in 7th with a time of 9:44. He also was the only member of the Jeff cross country team to qualify for state competition. He came in with a respectable place of 18th. Rudy ran a beautiful race, said Coach Polhamus. I hope to continue running after I graduate, said Rudy Camacho. Counting the Miles Cross Country's Pacing Strides Four year miler. Rudy Camacho C121 was rated as a threat to any school. He was Jeffersons best runner and also captain, chosen by his team members. For the girls, Carmen Jaime C121 was the leader who placed highly in every meet. Both Rudy and Carmen received medals and ribbons. Our goal was to send at least two members to regionals and these two are the ones who have the ability. stated Coach Polha- mus. The varsity was basically made up of 5 seniors while there was only 1 junior and 1 sophomore. The girls' varsity was composed ot only 2 seniors and the rest were juniors.
