lnthe Long Run. Milers Cfl and Running Under the leadership of first year coach, Robert Polhamus, the milers got off to a slow start. They came in tenth place at the Bel Air and Coro- nado invitationals. This is a sport that is composed of hard work, determination, long hours and self pride, stated Mr. Polhamus. All these qualifications are very important to a good runner. Practice consisted of long distance running to places like Riverside, Fort Bliss, and the hilly streets up by Rad- ford non-stop. Practice is hard but worth it, said Rudy Valdez C123. The team included: Armando Adame C123, Rudy CamachoC123, Mike Corona C123, Sergio Cortez C123, Oscar de la Rosa Jr. C113, Alfredo Flores C103, manager Raul Guerrero C123, Henry Hernandez C1 13, Gilbert JezberaC103, Paul Moreno C1 13, Joe Ramirez C103, Pedro Raya C93, David Rojas C1 13, Juan Romero C123, Sergio Smith C93, Rudy Valdez C123, and Fer- nie Vasquez C103 For the girls it was Corina Alarcon C113, Sylvia Chavez C103, Bertha Her- nandez C1 23, Carmen Jaime C1 23, Pat Juarez C1 13, Margie Martinez C103, Diane Moriel C103, Missy Real y Vas- quez C103, Mona Salas C1 13, and Irene Viescas C103. As Armando Adame C123, was leading, he got spiked causing him to drop. At the starting line, the Foxes await the sound of the gun. The Racer's Edge Camacho Qualifies for State The girls' varsity went to Lubbock to compete in regional competition. I couldn't believe it, said Patsy Juarez as Andress was favored. I knew we could do it, said Bertha Hernandez. They went to regionals because they qualified as one ot the top three teams in the girls' division at the district meet held at Coronado. The girls' varsity was composed of top runner, Carmen Jaime 1121, Ber- tha Hernandez Cl 23, Patsy Juarez Q1 lj, Mona Salas C1 U, and Corina Alarcon C1 U. For the boys, the only qualifier was Rudy Camacho C121 He came in 7th with a time of 9:44. He also was the only member of the Jeff cross country team to qualify for state competition. He came in with a respectable place of 18th. Rudy ran a beautiful race, said Coach Polhamus. I hope to continue running after I graduate, said Rudy Camacho.
