I saesne-idatmecivtccemer. Some of the Finest Even though cadet enrollment has decreased, the ROTC Department maintained the ii1 position in District. Under the instruction of MSGT Floren- tino Sterling and MSGT Robert F. Sloate, the cadets received first in city with a total of 202,65 points during their November 15 inspection. The Drill Teams, too, had a busy year capturing the Sweepstakes Tro- phy during their first meet at Andress High School, November 18. This tro- phy is awarded to the school accumu- lating the highest scores by both Var- sity Drill Teams. Commanding Varsity Drill Teams were Major Raul Lara and Major Irene Sandoval. Commanding the B-team Drill Team were Ricky Amor and Car- ole Ramirez. Orienteering, still another activity, involved map-reading skills and cross- country running. Team members trav- eled to different locations outside city limits to run a practice course every other Saturday. Team Captain was Arturo Acosta. One of the most entertaining events was the annual Military Ball at the Civic Center, January 13. Theme was Hawaiian Fantasies and music was provided by FAME. Other schools par- ticipating in this gala event were Austin and Burges. The night's festivities included the coronation ofthe Military Court which consisted of, Oueen Laurie Placencio and Lady-in-Waiting Laura Light- bourne. Princesses were Irene Sando- val, 12, Gloria Yepez, 11 , Gloria Weir, 10, and Lourdes Frias, 9. Sweethearts were Terri Garcia, lrene Nevarez, Belinda Martinez, Liz Salazar, and Rosemary Nevarez. Theme for the Military Ball was Hawaiian Fanta- Team Captain Arturo Acosta takes his first steps in running in Orienteering course.
