it 'ortraying Mr. and Mrs. Peters in 'The Late ireat Me' were Jerry Hernandez, 11, and Nelyn Torres, 12. Showtime ls Soon Approaching. . . Put on a Slappy Face! Among the many things associ- ated with Drama plays and panto- mimes is the grease-paint. Imagine putting sticky, greasy, heavy make- up all over your face! When wear- ing grease-paint, everything tight- ens up and then you feel like you're ready for the deep-fat fryer, expressed Mr. Michael Towne, Drama teacher and sponsor. Some students also stated that the paint felt awful, horrible, gross, and sweaty. But, they wore it any way, proving their seriousness and persistence in Drama. The major part of Drama was the participation and co-opera- tion of all involved. For me, partici- pation in school functions was one of the best things about being in . ... L, ,'C -9' lf a pa, Q Aga Drama, said Evelyn Torres, 12. All the teens had to work together to put out their best. I felt very close to my fellow members. You had to be open and truthful when watching each other perform. Peo- ple that are that way usually get along fantastically. I know we did, remarked Lydia Hernandez, 12. Drama was a great help to many students. It eliminated some of my tenseness and improved my ability to get along with people, observed Hilda Huante, 10. lt helped me become more involved in Jefferson and through it I made many friends. lt also gave me more confidence in myself as a person, added Tammy Campbell, 12. Thus, it seems that Drama was a combination of many things. lt helped their acting abilities and gave them more confidence in everyday experiences. Hilda Huante, Lillian Contreras, Lydia Her- nandez, and Mr. Michael Towne were teens experiencing the first day of school in the fall play 'The Late Great Me.' 1 Victor Godina Satumino Gonzalez Jerry Hemandez Lydia Hernandez 'Y Hilda Huante fe 11' 4 LV X . . ff . Ne Got the Mime if You Got the Time W The Blob mimest found themselves a good creature to eat as the creature was played by ' Dikki Solis. Tammy Campbell experienced Mime make- up for the second time as she puts on a sloppy face. Pantomine, like acting, took much of mimest time, but, of course, if one wanted to be the cream of the crop among other schools it was worth the work. Mil- dred Knapp and Jesus Salas took second place at Las Cruces. Jesus was also successful at EI Paso Community College taking first in solo mime. He went to finals at Coronado High School. Leo Larriva took second in solo mime at E.P.C.C., second at Las Cruces and also went to finals at Coronado High School. Raul Rodriguez was in finals at L.C.H.S. and at Coronado High School. All of these students participate mostly for contest in mime. The hours that were put into them required time for research on the music which went exactly perfect with their mime. 'There were times when they had to find literary mimes, things that were from a published book or fairy tale. Pantomime is the first step towards acting. So all the actors learned how to mime. When April was just around the corner, they worked hard on their mimes and made some up. They gave the audi ence who went to the third panto- mime show April 26 a lot of smiles and laughs. 39
