Strum Along The guitar is a popular stringed nstrument, It can be used to accom- :any singers, as a solo instrument, or as part of a band. For centuries, musi- :ians played acoustical guitars, which Jroduced sound from the vibration of he strings. During the 1900's, electri- :al guitars became popular. An elec- ric guitar has an electrimogretic fevice that picks up the sound of the string when being strummed and sends it through an amplifier. An elec- ric guitar can produce a greater range nf sounds than an acoustical guitar. The guitar club used both electrical and acoustical guitar to send off the nest sounds from the vibration of the strings, to get the best sound effects. Aembers strummed along as they accompanied the music with their singing. They also did solo numbers either just playing original classic or singing and playing well known sounds. The first time their sounds were at he P.T.S.A. on January the 16. Where :oth the young and the old were get- ing down to the funky sounds. Their second presentation was at Hender- son Jr. High when they performed for he beauty pageant February 1. The hird time was the most exciting time or them as they strummed along at heir Concert held February 2. ludy Martinez, Frank Lopez and Flichard Guer- aro played and sung a well-known song at the '.T.S,A. Rudy Martinez performed a solo number playing an original classic which he composed himself. M, I Ll Mr. Munoz started off the P.T.S,A. with a speech while the guitar players prepared themselves. Among the many things associ- ated with Drama plays and panto- mimes is the grease-paint. Imagine putting sticky, greasy, heavy make- up all over your face! When wear- ing grease-paint, everything tight- ens up and then you feel like you're ready for the deep-fat fryer, expressed Mr. Michael Towne, Drama teacher and sponsor. Some students also stated that the paint felt awful, horrible, gross, and sweaty. But, they wore it any way, proving their seriousness and persistence in Drama. The major part of Drama was the participation and co-opera- tion of all involved. For me, partici- pation in school functions was one of the best things about being in . ... L, ,'C -9' lf a pa, Q Aga Drama, said Evelyn Torres, 12. All the teens had to work together to put out their best. I felt very close to my fellow members. You had to be open and truthful when watching each other perform. Peo- ple that are that way usually get along fantastically. I know we did, remarked Lydia Hernandez, 12. Drama was a great help to many students. It eliminated some of my tenseness and improved my ability to get along with people, observed Hilda Huante, 10. lt helped me become more involved in Jefferson and through it I made many friends. lt also gave me more confidence in myself as a person, added Tammy Campbell, 12. Thus, it seems that Drama was a combination of many things. lt helped their acting abilities and gave them more confidence in everyday experiences. Hilda Huante, Lillian Contreras, Lydia Her- nandez, and Mr. Michael Towne were teens experiencing the first day of school in the fall play 'The Late Great Me.' 1 Victor Godina Satumino Gonzalez Jerry Hemandez Lydia Hernandez 'Y Hilda Huante fe 11' 4 LV X . . ff .
