French, German, Spanish, and Eng- lish. At one time, all were taught at Jef- ferson. ln the nineteen sixties, there was an entire Foreign Language Department of eight teachers which diminished to one man. Mr. Adolfo Alvarez teaches French, Spanish, and English PLUS acts as sponsor of the French Club. The French Club was composed of those students interested in French and competing in Language Tourna- ments. One such tournament was the Modern Foreign Language Tourna- ment in March. The Foreign Language Festival at Bassett School was another tournament this past year. Aside from tournaments, the members participted in candy sales and numerous fund- raising projects. ' Members of the French Club were Angela Caldelas, Juana Aguilar, Susan Makhoul, Harold Mitchell, Lilly De los Santos, Victor Godina, Karen Martinez, Diana Quintana, Becky Solis, Esther Jauregui, Jose Adrade, and Marie Godines.
