Where Did He Come From?. . . T-l3ird's Rich Runs Over Top-Rated Defense The game opening kickoff was received by the T-birds and was fumbled but recovered quickly by the T-Birds. The Foxes held and forced them to punt. Jeff received the ball on the 39-yard line but failed to score as the T-Bird defense refused to let them penetrate. The game kept showing great defense by both teams. With the clock ticking down, Coronado's best running back Forrest Rich C335 scored on a 66-yard run. The extra point was missed ending the quarter with a score of 6- O. The Foxes had last possession in the first quarter going into the second. With the Foxes still in command of the ball, they tried to penetrate but were held, On the next possession by the T- Birds, their drive was ended by an interception made by Wil- lie Aguilar C25. This attempt to score also failed, giving the T- Birds the ball again which led to another score by Forrest Rich C335. This time they went for a 2 point conversion and succeeded making the score 14-O Coronado, going into half- time. ln the third quarter, Forrest Rich C335, scored again. As soon as the Foxes regained the ball they went to work on a drive lead by Alex Garcia C325 and Charlie Martinez C315 for the Fox's first score. Alex Garcia C325 was the back who plunged in for the score. ln the fourth quarter, the T-l3ird's running back Forrest Rich C335 scored again making this his third touchdown in the game. The crowd seemed settled down, but not the T- Birds, as late in the fourth quarter the T-Birds scored again, terminating the game with the score of 35-7. Fidel Martinez C235, punted many times averaging good yards on each punt. This put the T-birds in bad field position. Ralph Medrano C125 rolls out to complete a pass. Despite the loss Ralph played a good game. George Garcia C215 is being wrestled down slowly as he put up a good fight to add more yards to his reception. Without finding a clear receiver, Ralph Medrano C125 keeps it making the first down. , N. ...E .L ,Q ,..,

Foxes Troubled by Mistakes Leading to Losses After being defeated by the T-Birds the Foxes headed on downto Irvin where they faced the Rockets. In this game, running back Mario Briones rushed for 152 yards and made 2 touchdowns. In the third quarter, Briones ran for a 68-yard run but was called back. This only held the Rockets for a while as 5 plays later they scored on a quarterback keep by Jose Aragon. As in other games, mistakes and penalties kept Jeff from victory, as Irvin defenders picked off 3 passes and recovered a fumble. The fumble was the key defensive play for Irvin, At the half it was a 7-O Irvin lead. In the third quarter, Richard Gonzales C255, blocked a punt and returned it 34 yards to the Irvin 2 yard line. This run was called back by an illegal use of hands penalty which put Jeff at lrvin's 15 yard line. With the Foxes threatening, right on the next play they lost the ball on a fumble. . The Foxes scored in the fourth quarter on a pass from Ralph MedranoC125, to Willie Aguilar C25. Jeff lost more yards than they gained as Charlie Martinez C315, rushed 17 times for 44 yards and were penalized 7 times for 78 yards. The game ended at a 14-6 Irvin win. Eddie Gardea 1205, had his best game ever mak- ing several tackles and intimidating the quarter- back. Here he turns the play in as he is sup- posed to, so he can get assistance from his team members. ,ami 0 GO 01 02,024 04450049 sb 13,6 426 6 'f T06 2'

Mike Doporto C773 and Pat Ramirez C853 take down Bullit C333 for a loss of yard- age. Pat Ramirez C853 forces a fumble recovered by the Foxes but could not be run because of the rules. Larry Frausto C643 and Willie Aguilar C23 stop the Eagle offense cold leaving them yardless. Alvight to Forget. . . Eagles Surprise Foxes With a 21-6 Win on Errors The first district game for the Foxes ended in a loss caused by many mistakes. The game itself was very exciting because of the many spine-tingling plays. In the first quarter, the Foxes closest range to paydirt came from a pass to George Garcia C813, but was called back because of an illegal use of hands penalty. The crowd reacted by booing. In the second quarter, the scoring began. A Fox fumble was the cause of the Eagles' capitalizing on a 12-yard quar- terback run for the first score in the game. Late in the quar- ter, the Fox's drive was stopped cold by an interception. Despite a few errors, the Foxes displayed good defense. The score at halftime was 7-O, Andress leading. The second half was just as exciting as the first. Starting with the kickoff the Eagles soon went to work. They scored on their first possession of the ball. Moments later on a punt to Andress, Frank Lopez C873, jarred the ball loose on a good tackle giving the Foxes good field position, but the Eagle defense made the Foxes give up the ball. Soon after, the same thing happened as Frank Lopez C873 caused a fumble, giving the Foxes possession of the ball on the Eagles' 18- yard line. On third down, the quarter ended. In the fourth quarter Robert Martinez C153 threw a 20-yard pass to George Garcia C813 for the first Fox score. The extra point was missed, caused by a bad snap from the center. Problems continued for the Foxes as Andress again inter- cepted a pass. The Fox's defense made the Eagles cough up the ball and Pat Ramirez C853 picked up the ball. He ran for the touchdown, but it was called back because of high school rules. This happened twice. lf not for the rule, Jeffer- son would have won by twelve or fourteen points. Jeff again was stopped by an interception. Martinez' pass was deflected before it was picked off for a touchdown which ended the Foxes last hope. The final score was Andress 21 , Jefferson 6. it L Robert Martinez C153 receives word from upstairs for their next play by coach Lowenberg.
