l would start to read many books, but only got half way and quit, said Jose Andrade. I like reading short stories, but no books for me, said Victor Godina. The Library club is different from some of the other clubs. Library club members have an opportunity to get acquainted with the library, they are taught to do library work and how to run a library. lt helps them very much, especially if they are looking for a job after they graduate from high school that requires filing, typing, and research. They also attend a Teenage Library State Convention. There many Library Club members from other states meet. This year the Library Teenage Convention was held at Huntsville, Texas. On their out-of-town trip, they attended at least two session meet- ings. They elected officers for Teen- age Library Association. They had one or two parties, and a tour through the city. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear National Honor Society? Brains, right? Well, to be in this organization you not only must have maintained an A average by the end of your junior or senior year, but you must also have the quali- fications of a leader and must maintain service to the school by participating in school activities. Membership is also based on the individual's character and citizenship. The Honor Society did their part in helping the community. Among these community and school projects were mini concerts for the elderly and chil- dreng they helped the elderly complete their income tax formsg they painted a mural in the schoolg and they had a huge plaque of the NHS emblem made. The 22-member organization had a variety of money-raising projects. They sold corsages for Homecoming. Many of the members are enthused about the NHS activities, expressed Frank Lopez, club president. Anthony Shaar and Gilbert Rodriguez were exceptional salesmen, he con- cluded. For outdoor enjoyment they spent an entire day at Cloudcroft during the end of November. They stayed at their sponsor's cabin. Towards the end of January they made another trip and went snow tubing. NHS Beau and Sweetheart were Anthony Shaar and Sylvia Matamoros. Their sponsor was Mr. Henry LaPointe. Officers were President Frank Lopez, Vice-President Felipe Rocha and Secretary Evelyn Jaime.
