Varsity Cheerleaders Spirit All the Way to Victory One ot the most exciting things about being a cheerleader is the thought ot jumping up and down yell- ing your lungs out and supporting. Assemblies also are exciting because everyone is so peppyf' said Darlina Villa. Elaine Coiro said, When l'm up in tront of an audience l feel super excited and very proud to be a cheer- leader tor this school. I like to stay for practice after schoolg that way it gives a good chance to better ourselves in every- thing we do, said Rosa Rojas. Their first camp was a three-day camp held here in El Paso at Andress l-ligh School. All the El Paso District Squads were there to compete. They learned cheers, chants, pompom rou- tines, jumps and gymnastics. They competed in a talent show and were Varsity Cheerleaders, top: Eliane Corio Cleft to Cleft to rightj Gracie Navaro, Linda Gerrero nghtj Evelyn Jaime, Laura Silva, Darlina Villa Alma Cano, Rosa Rojas. successful. The awards received at this camp were an outstanding ribbon, which was the highest ribbon given out that day. The next day they received an excellent ribbon. Junior Varsity Pride, Pep, and Pom Poms The Junior Varsity squad showed their pride to the school at assemblies as they led the class to yells and chants. They also showed it at football games when they would take over to let the varsity take a rest. Pep was always shown on their faces when they would be jumping, cheering and yelling their hearts out with enthusiasm. Whether the team was on a tough sit- uation or it the team was on the lead by plenty of points, they were there to give them confidence all the way. Pom Poms were used frequently when they would cheer or when doing a pompom routine. From top to split: Norma Gutierrez fleftj, Amy Arrieta, Sylvia Medina, Cristy Renteria, Debbie Godfried, Monette Leos, and lrma E, Nieto. Sylvia Medina showed a lot of spirit during the many football games the Junior Varsity cheered, Norma Gutierrez, Sylvia Medina and Irma Nieto lead the juniors and sophomores while having a battle between seniors and freshmen to see who had the most spirit,
