1 Caj Fidel Martinez C231 kicks off the first winning game. Cbj Gilbert Rodriguez C721 leads the pack after a non-scoring first half. Ccj The offense dis- cusses their next strategic play. Kicking Gff the Season With Varsity football got off to a great start as they showed potential in defense against the Riverside Rangers. Both Jefferson and Riverside held each other in the first half, but starting in the third quarter, things started to hap- pen. The Rangers received but were held and had to punt from their own 10-yard line. This gave Jefferson good field posi- tion which the Foxes quickly took advantage of. With the run- ning of junior running back, Alex Garcia C321 the offense led a 40-yard drive inside the 5-yard line. This set up the first score in the game as junior quarterback, Robert Martinez C151 went in on a quarterback sneak. One of the greatest plays in the third quarter had to be when the Rangers were on the Fox's 20-yard line. The quar- terback dropped back to pass and was intercepted by the senior defense back, George Garcia C811 who returned it for a 93-yard touchdown. He got a great Crack-Back block from Pat Ramirez C851 when a player from Riverside almost caught George Garcia C811 this key block also injured him, but he was soon up and playing again. Riverside's NIGHTMARE was not over, as late in the third quarter another Ranger drive was stopped short when senior Larry Frausto C641 intercepted a pass. This set up Jeffer- son's third and final points as Robert Martinez C151 con- nected on an 18-yard pass play to senior Sam Montoya C211 for a touchdown. The fourth quarter was like the first with both teams show- ing good defense. The final score was 21 -O.
