5'U3?l'3t' intellectuals Strive for Merit Each year, the five students with the highest average in their class are awarded with academic letters. This past year Rafael Camacho, Margaret De Leon, Connie Garcia, David Romo, and George Vicario received Scholas- tic awards earned during their sopho- more year. This was the second year in a row for Margaret, Connie, and David, mak- ing it a double honor for them. In addition to doing well in school, these students were actively involved at Jeff. Connie was active in Student Council, Senior Science Seminar, and Speech in her sophomore year. During her Junior year she was in Student Council, Senior Science Seminar, Speech, Silver Hostess, and J.E.T.S. Woe-President. Margaret was in the Chess Club in her sophomore year. ln her junior year she was the secretary of the Chess Club, a member of J.E.T.S., and Clubs Co-editor of the El Capitan. George was a member ot Number Sense in his sophomore year. David attended Eastwood during his junior year. During his sophomore year, however, he was on the swimming team and a member of the French Club. Ralph attended Burges in his junior year. During his sophomore year he was a member of the Number Sense and a member ot Varsity Tennis

Doodling his way as Branding lron's phantom cartoonist, Mysterio has many people baffled out of their wits, I nearly tore apart the room trying to think who he or she was, stated Junior Alex Villa. lf I make a dumb cartoon nobody will say anything to me, because I'm anonymous, stated the thin medium sized, kinky haired male. Mysterio is a junior who attends Tech Center where he takes drawing, painting, and commercial art classes. We received many compliments for Mysterio's cartoons, stated Yvette Mona, Branding Iron editor. She then added, His cartoons allow students to see themselves as they really are. You saw him in the Branding Iron, you read about him in the EI Capitan . . . but do you know who the artist behind the sketches is?
