The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time. - Thomas Iefferson Life at Thomas Iefferson High School is what many persons would describe as traditional or even con- servative. This is probably because our life is influenced greatly by our Mexican culture. Many of our grandparents, parents and even many students here were born in Mexico. Mexico's near- ness, its relationship to us and its memories are all depicted in many ways during our high school life. Ieffersonians call our nearest neigh- boring city of Iuarez by many names, including I-town and Iuariles. How- ever, when our culture or heritage is insulted, these same students are the first to defend it, and are always ready to fight for its name. We are a proud people, a proud school, and we have a right to be so. Of course, like all other high school students, we occasionally ditch classes, forge absent slips, cheat on tests and copy homework, Yet there remains that undying loyalty and pride which makes our school uni- que. The 1975-76 school year broke one of our long-standing traditions, the Bowie-Iefferson dual homecoming game in the Sun Bowl. This year Bowie ended the tradition by playing El Paso High for homecoming. Rumors that the 1976 Mardi Gras would be in the boys' gym instead of the Coliseum, the realization that Ief- ferson would no longer have a fresh- man class, the addition of the social studies wing and the imminent removal of the portables were all factors of this school year. We overcame these and other changes, yet our campus is still basi- cally the same as it was fifteen years ago. Maybe not visually, but surely internally, the same feelings and memories will always be here. The high school building, the inter- mediate, the new building, band room, counseling center and gyms will long be remembered. Whether it was where you first met your great- est love, where he or she gave you back your ring, where you fell down the stairs and everybody laughed, or that certain place where you waited for that special someone, these places will always remain in our minds, even when the buildings are no longer here. -,imma , A my f 'M 3135? 7 I fa A
