Mr. Ioe Iacquez was the speech instructor. In Ianuary the speech contestants attended the San Angelo Tournament for their out-of- town trip. At the separate tournaments, poetry favorite Rose Marie Gonzales led the category by obtaining several con- secutive first place honors. In the prose category, Rosie Garcia was the standout with two second places and a first. Slave Sale lnitiates Students The Future Teachers of America Club aided substitute teachers in classroom preparation techniques. The club sent Becky Diaz and Cathy Bustamante to a state convention in Houston. They had a slave sale for initiation. Their activities were a Christmas party, a lollipop sale, baked goods for Teachers' Apprecia- tion Week and took candy to the children at Thomason General Hos- pital. Officers were Becky Diaz, presidentg Cathy Bustamante, vice-president: Lizzy Hernandez, secretary, Marcia Reyes, parliamentarian and Billie Moya historian.
