We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rightsg that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. - The Declaration of Inde- pendence Here at Iefferson, the life, the liberty, and the pursuit of happiness which is part of our school life are to be admired. There is no happiness, no life, no liberty like those experienced in high school. There is no feeling like that of watching your team win or lose, no feeling like breaking up, no feeling like that of flunking a class or of being sent to the principal. There are many feelings which we cannot express in words which go on everyday here at Iefferson. We've all witnessed the trials and tri- bulations it has taken to achieve the right to say we can lead our own lives, do what we please, and pursue our own style of happiness. Although many persons still cannot visualize these freedoms, they are there for the taking by each one of us. We, the staff of the El Capitan, have chosen this as topic and theme for our 1976 yearbook. True, it may not be unique, exceptionally good, or even remotely original, yet we feel we can depict the story, the life, the liberties, the memories, the happi- ness and the sorrow that we leave Jehind each year, in expectation of a Jetter year to come. Phe year 1976 naturally brings to nind America's Revolutionary Bi- Centennial. However, the staff, like so many others, was tired of hearing about the United States' two-hun- dredth birthday. Still we felt it was only appropriate that we mention the Bi-Centennial. The two-hun- dredth birthday of the United States will only happen once. So, in an attempt to honor the Bi-Centennial, while keeping our Iefferson year- book as Iefferson-oriented as possi- ble, we decided to let our theme and cover reflect the nation's Bi-Centen- nial. The staff hopes to share our feelings, our definitions and our viewpoints on Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness on and off our campus. We hope we can offer an insight into our life and hope to share our experi- ences with others. 2 fbi
