Printing Shop Helps Create Craftsmen Printing is one of the highest ranking and demanding skills. With respect to its number of establishments, current census reports list printing as the second American industry. Numbering seventh in total salaries and wages paid fthree million dollars as an annual payrolljg eighth in the values added by manu- facture, and employing over one million work- ers, it stands at the ninth position. Holding a vast number of skilled craftsmen, printing will be truly rewarding in the future for many Tech students who attended its sessions. This course consisted of technical instruction and practical shop experience on such things as hand, cold type and hot metal compositiong linotype maintenance and teletype operationg letterpress and offset press operationg proof- readingg bindery operationsg understanding of paper and ink: remelting metal and casting of matrixesg copy camerag stripping and offset plate making. Beginning at the sophomore level, printing is a three year program. The course was three hours long, with approximately two and a half hours of shop work. fbli 238 .bn- CHJT CCJT
