High Hopes Vanish As Foes Triumph Despite Fox' Leads Being Chosen 2-4A district contender, Ieff's varsity foot- ball team entered the season with 22 returning lettermen and prominant hopes of obtaining the crown. This year was the Foxes last in district 2-4A. The season opener proved disappointing with Austin swinging three TD's in the final stanza to win 21-17. Next the Ieff squad failed on a last-minute two-point conversion attempt and had their second loss to Irvin by a close 20-19 score. Indians Ambush Fox Squad. . . For the Foxes' final pre-district contest, they awaited the Odessa Ector Eagles at Bowie Stadium. Again the Foxes luck turned sour with the Eagles arising the victor with a 28-16score The following week had the Silver and Scarlet traveling to Indian territory for the district opening game against Ysleta. With the absence of halfback Anton Niles and several injuries from past games, the Fox clan experienced trouble in maintaining a steady offensive-devensive bal- ance. The Indians triumphed, capitalizing on small mis- takes, and handling the Foxes a 14-7 loss.
