Nettie Fowler talks to her girls about the upcoming clam bake. Carrie Pippcridge tells Iulie Iordan of the burlesque show she saw in New York. Mrs. Mullins entices Billy to come back to the carousel. Billy Bigelow displays his talents as a barker by calling people to the carousel. Iigger shows Carrie how firemen carry people. Carousel. . . a beautiful love story set in a small town on the coast of Maine in 1873. Billy Bigelow, a local carnival barker, falls in love with the lovely Iulie Iordan. They leave their jobs to go off and get married. When they return, they face a hostile community. The Iune clambake finds Iulie pregnant and Billy unemployed, depressed, and bitter. He agrees to go in on a robbery with his shady friend, Iigger. Billy, trying to escape the scene of the robbery, gone awry. falls on his knife and dies. The musical quickly moves forward fifteen years and finds Billy in heaven, watching his daughter on Earth and discovering that all is not well. I-le returns to earth for one day, gives his daughter a star, and- then leaves earth with the satisfaction of knowing his daughter is happy. Billy, once again in heaven, has the feeling that he has finally done something good for his daughter. With the excellent acting, the fine scenery, the stage work contributed bythe Art Service Club, the make-up by Center Stage, the orchestral music under the direction of Mr. Geyer, and the help and guidance from Mr. lack Cannon, this year's Carousel was a superb performance.
