Members of the administration are faced with the challenge of guiding and instructing a large number of stu- dents and at the same time retaining communication between the teacher and the individual student. Teachers pre- pare students academically for their fu- ture vocations and for their roles as citizens of the community.

Board of Administration The chief function of the Ad- ministrative Staff of the Dallas Independent School District is to insure a classroom atmosphere where teaching and learning may proceed as efficiently as possible. Each member of the staff, pic- tured here, is in charge of a sub- division of the total School Ad- ministration. Recommendations, programs. and improvements are channeled through the Superin- tendent of Schools to the Board of Education for approval or disap- proval. Matthews, Assistant Superin- tendent in Charge of Special Servicesg C. C. Miller, Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Organizationg Robert H. McKay, Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Administration. Board of Education The Board of Education for the Dallas Independent School District is the legislative and policy making body for the 350 sq. mile district. Within this responsibility there is a problem of providing money to operate, maintain, and supply 170 school plans throughout the district. Members of the Board of Education are non- paid citizens who serve from a sense of civic duty. The Board considers the Superintendent of Schools the executive officer whose recommendations for the maintenance and operation of the schools are considered and acted upon at regular meetings.
