:.'.'... ...- af l l.l.l JI a 1 URI Since 1884, the Dallas Independent School District has been under the direc- tion of a Board of Education, composed of civic-minded citizens elected to serve Without remuneration to supervise the education of the youth of the community as completely as possible. The School Board controls the budget, contracts for building and expansion of the educational plants, participates in national educational programs, and studies the needs of the child in relation to the community itself. Dallas has been extremely fortunate in having many capable governing bodies, such as the one pictured below, to direct these activities. THE SCHOOL BOARD Left to ri ht R B Gilmore, R. L. OFFICE STAFF Behind the scenes - and occasionally in front of them or on top of them - we find at Jefferson a well- organized group known as the Office Staff. These patient ladies hear all the tardy excuses, check illegible attendance slips, hunt down lost students, and carry on other such tasks necessary to the efficient operation of a high school. MARIE L. BROWN Secretary Sure I know it's in Sanskrit, but at least I brought an excuse!
