I One of the outstanding men of the 'anew era in Dallas education is Richard E. Stroud, young, able principal of Thomas Jefferson. Educated at Oklahoma University, Northwestern, Colorado Uni- versity, and North Texas State College, he holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and the Master of Science degree in Education Admini- stration from Southern Methodist University. Hav- ing come from the principalship of Rusk Junior High to open Thomas Jefferson, Mr. Stroud has also been active in administration capacities such as the Community Guidance Service, and has been Acting Chairman of the Youth Adjustment and Guidance Commission. THE PRINCIPAL Richard E. Stroud This year we may, I think, assess the position of Thomas Jefferson as one of sig- nificance in the educational climate of Dallas. We are proud of our city's school system, which is surely one of the most enlightened in our part of the country. We are convinced, when we evaluate our progress in these three and one-half years, that Thomas Jefferson is making and will continue to make a worthwhile contri- bution toward the excellence of that system. Of course, the measure of that contribution is our graduating class. This year's seniors have indeed proved themselves Worthy of our pride, and, further, of the pride of Dallas. If they always be as outstanding scholastically, socially, and civically as they have been here at Jefferson, Dallas will deserve the congratulations of the nation. Z.

EDITH COOPER DEAN The duties of the Dean range from the supervision of attendance to counseling, from advising upon the social life of the school to the keeping of untold records.
