The fy!IfU6'l7fZll'C' 0 THE 0 E THAT GO I A W AY It has been said that Springtime turns a young mans fancy to thoughts of love. However, many of their thoughts turn to other things, especially the national pastime, Baseball. And here at lef- ferson it's no different. XVhen March rolls around, the Baseball team with the help of the Coach, Mr. Robert L. Schain, who is also chairman of the Social Studies Depart- ment, looks for new prospects, who, we hope, will carry the team to many victories. The members of the team this year are mostly newcomers and the only three seniors are Spencer Sander, and Barry Goldsmith, co-captains, and Lewis Rubin. Sander, who is also a very good bas- ketball player, is expected to be one of the out- standing pitchers in the season. Last year he batted an even .500 and struck out at least 12 men in every game he pitched. Goldsmith, who is the shortstop, is another outstanding athlete and we hope he does as well on the baseball diamond as he did on the football field. The fi1'st game of the '59 season will be played against Boys High and Mr. Schain and his team are hoping for a better record than the 5-5 record of last Spring. With the efforts of the team and the support of all Ieffersonians there is no reason why their goal can't be reached. Valarie Asher It was apparent, however, that a theory was forming in Holmes' mind.

STUDY I WHITE XVhile walking around the main hall of our beloved school, my eyes suddenly focused on a small piece of orange paper protruding from under the door of the girls' gym. After snatching it up, I quickly whipped out my trusty magnifying glass and examined the paper carefully. Then, to my complete amazement, I discovered that this was not just an ordinary scrap of processed fiber, but the letter obviously lost from an important bul- letin board in the school. Through my mind went the names of the various organizations, but I couldnit find one with this particular letter in its name. Alas! here I was with a clue and I could not find the missing link. Then, as if my prayers were suddenly answered, I remembered that there was a girls, athletic group called LEADERS. I ran into the girlsl gym as fast as my legs would carry me and returned the missing letter to a very grateful girl. Since I was already there, I decided to find out a little more about this group of girls who are always seen in snow white gym suits coyered with many felt letters earned by excellence in after school clubs. As I was stand- ing engrossed in my own thoughts, four girls suddenly came over and asked me what I was doing in the gym. After explaining my presence, I found out tl at these four girls were the newly elected ofheers of Leaders. They are: Natalie Cuttler-President, Rosemarie Del Purgatorio-Yeep, Leona Ha- inoska-Treasurer, and ludy Ettinger-Secretary. The bell rang. Students scurried in and out of rooms, brushinq past us
