be Crm 0 THE HAPPIE T DAY Bright faces are gleaming, proud parents are beaming, and hundreds of vibrant voices are re-echoing tones of joyful laughter. All because it's graduation day, and youu are graduating. But why aren't you laughing? And why do you feel so tense? Perhaps itls that noise, that dreadful, rhythmic, repetitions beat that keeps pounding in your ears. G-d, what is it? Then, for a moment, reality, you realize that it's the sound of your heart palpitating with such abnormal intensity. And once again your head is swimming. XVhat is happening to you? How will you ever get your diploma? Suddenly, all noises fade into the distance and you,re all alone, and thinking. It seems as if it were only yesterday and you were starting out in elementary school, but 12 years have already passed. You hadnit a problem in the world then, except perhaps, the task of choosing whether to play ball or to ride your tricycle after school. Many of your actions were silly, but excusable, because you were only a kid. Then you reached the higher grades and just couldn,t wait to grow up--to be a teenager. To have funl Teenage life did consist of that fun you longed to have, but it was also a blend of the problems of adolescence you hadn't anticipated. Your pranks were criticized, yet understood, because you were at that in-between stage. Strong was your desire to grow older, as was your goal to be graduated from high school. XV ell, the time has come, and youire afraid! Suddenly, the sound of music breaks your period of silence. The noises of the crowd seem to return, too, and you realize that you are no longer alone. You're in a world with millions of people who expect you to face responsibility, make decisions, and react with decorum to all arising situa- tions. You know now that living won't be a 'gbed of roses, but your education has, both directly and indirectly, helped to prepare you for the future and now you must hope for the best. All around you happy faces are glowing, and before you know it some of the radiance seems to be passed on to you. You find yourself proudly smiling, and you know, uthis is your graduation day. You finally made it, kid! You're all grown uplu Hoclzellc Snyder By 11:00, we were well on our way to a solution. We had gathered many bits of information from cooperative teachers and had narrowed down the search considerably.
