Today I am graduating. As I look down at the audience, waiting for my turn to receive my diploma, my eyes wander to my family seated in the audience. They look so happy and wistful, all dressed in their Sunday best. It seems unbelievable to them that their little girl is graduating from high school. I can see them all, my mother radiant with joy, trying to brush the tears of gladness from her eyesg my father proud, but unhappy at realizing he is old enough to have a grown daughter, my grandmother sad and glad at the same time but feeling old for the first time in her 56 years. I-Iow do I feel? I guess Im too nervous to feel any- thing. The background of the chorus singing makes it seem almost unreal. It's funny but I guess this is the first time I've ever noticed how really nice-looking my fellow graduates are. Vilell. here it comes. Now it's my turn to receive my diploma. As I walk to the center of the aisle, my knees start knocking. Oh, will this never end? I'm as nervous as the first day I entered kindergarten. Wiell, now the diploma is in my hand, a thin piece of paper that I worked three years to get. Now the awards are being presented. The principal has just finished the farewell address, and as the strains of the school song fills the room, I get misty-eyed as I bid goodbye to Jefferson and to days of fun. As the door to this never-to-be-forgotten period of my life closes, a new door to adulthood and to the business world is unfolded. I say goodbye to jefferson and eagerly look ahead to this new phase of life awaiting me. Ims Prxsron
