ARTHUR STORCH MARCIA SORKIN CLAIRE SALZMAN NORMAN BACON President' Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Officers of the Senior Class Fellow Graduates: After twelve years of work we have finally come to the end. But is it the end? Or as in a symphony is it the brief pause at the end of a move- ment? Life and symphony divided into four movements . . . Childhood and youth are terminating . . . full stature, the longest phase, awaits . . . and old age, is far away .... Throughout, the motif appears, disappears, reappears. The motif in life is what we want to do and be. Regardless of Whether we reach this aim or fail, the motif will always be there, beating, throb- bing. In our childhood and youth we heard it faintly, sounding far away. To some of us now we hear it more clearly and powerfully and soon it will be booming in our ears. The second and third movements have not yet been written. That is where our task begins. It matters not if we go to work or to college. Which- ever path we choose, let us make sure it is the right one. Once we are cer- tain, once we have decided we will do it with as few mistakes as possible. Once we have the motif in mind, there will not be any barrier so large as to get in our way and hinder us. n But in our third movement we find another fully developed, forcing ours aside. In harsh shrill notes it blares out. This unyielding brute power is war cutting out our fate with blunt blows. However, our real motif rising above it is reinforced by truth, and courage and justice will inevitably bring to us a true victory. Then shall our motif rise higher and higher, reaching a smashing crescendo until it sounds out in pure, clear, resonant tone, to give us all hap- piness and joy. Above all it will sing within ourselves soothing, satisfying. Sincerely, ARTHUR STORCH 11
