Thomas Jefferson, pre-tourney favorites to keep the state title in Denver for the fourth straight year, made a successful debut by shooting down Ranum 86-56. Steve Mountjoy led the scoring with 27 points while showing a tremendous rebounding talent by pulling down I2 big ones off the boards. On the next evening, TJ was paired against a strong Greeley Central team which had com- piled a l7-l win-loss record, their only defeat at the hands of our Spartans in an earlier practice game. Once again, TJ routed the Wildcats 8l-7l as Dudley Mitchell and Roy Wilson combined for a total of 57 points. With one game left for the Seniors, the Spartans rose to the occasion wins ning a nip and tuck battle from the tall Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs 71-68. For the first time in our school's history, we could be proud to say that WE'RE NUMBER ONE.

968- 969 Conservative Spartans Liherally Celebrate at Jefferson Ball Blooming cherry trees, a life-like model of placid Mon- ticello, and crystal chandeliers set the mood for the third annual birthday tribute to Thomas jeiTerson on April 12th. Amid the splender and gala of the evening, semi- formally dressed Spartans grooved on the rock of Love Special Delivery from 9-12. Climaxing the inaugural ball, the jefferson Iournal's annual apology for past issues, was the crowning of Bob Inman and Anne Berardini as the President and First Lady. Max.Williams and Barbie Kortz, and Dave Iones and janet Fraser were honored as royal attendants. Politically speaking, this yearls jefferson Brawl was a liberal blast for even the most conservative party-goers. By the evenings end, all were starry-eyed and light- headed with visions oflife 200 years ago.
